What’s Lurking in Your Lotion — And Why We Went Primal Instead

A Wake-Up Call in a Jar
Let’s be real—most of us grew up slathering on pink bottles that smelled like fake cucumbers and left us “moisturized” for 30 seconds before the flaking began. But we trusted it. Because it was at the drugstore, it said “hydrating,” and it cost $14.99.
For me, the real wake-up call came when I was searching for something—anything—to soothe my baby’s eczema.
The options I was given were full of synthetic ingredients, petroleum derivatives, and harsh preservatives. I kept thinking: how is this safe for my baby’s skin?
That was the moment I stopped outsourcing answers and started looking for a better way—something ancestral, simple, and aligned with how our bodies are actually meant to heal.
(As an RN, I’ve seen firsthand how disconnected modern care can be from true nourishment—and I knew there had to be another way.)
Let’s Decode That Label
Once I started flipping over bottles and actually reading the ingredients, it was like seeing the matrix.
Here’s what I found in most mainstream moisturizers:
Fragrance – a catch-all for hundreds of undisclosed chemicals (many linked to hormone disruption).
Parabens + Phthalates – synthetic preservatives that are cheap and... questionable, at best.
Petrolatum/Mineral Oil – derived from crude oil, they coat the skin but do nothing to nourish it.
Dimethicone – gives that fake “smooth” feel but can trap dirt and clog pores.
This isn’t skincare. It was never designed to truly support the healing I needed—for my child or myself.
Enter: Tallow
Tallow is rendered animal fat from grass-fed cows—and your skin loves it. It’s packed with bioavailable vitamins A, D, E, and K, and its structure closely mirrors our own skin’s natural oils.
When I began making my own tallow balm in my kitchen, I saw the difference almost immediately. My baby’s skin calmed. My hands healed. And for the first time, I felt like I wasn’t guessing—I was using something that worked.
Here’s why tallow is IT:
- Bioavailable – your skin knows exactly how to use it.
- Supports true healing – not just surface-level hydration.
- Hydrates deeply and lasts for hours – no reapplying every 15 minutes.
- Ancestral & clean – no fillers, no fluff, no greenwashed promises.
This was skincare that actually respected the body.
Why We Use Whole Botanicals—Not Essential Oils
Not all “natural” is created equal. A lot of green washed skincare brands rely on essential oils to sound clean—but many of them are highly processed, irritating, and totally out of balance, especially for babies and sensitive skin.
When I started formulating for my family, I knew essential oils weren’t the answer. Instead, I turned to whole ingredients—calendula, lavender, frankincense resin—and began slow-infusing them into nourishing oils the way our great-grandmothers did.
At Tippy Tallow, we use the whole botanical. Because when you let nature do her thing, she creates balanced, gentle medicine for the skin. Not stripped-down, hyper-concentrated extracts—just real plants, working in harmony with real fat, to support real healing.
Why We Made the Switch (and Never Looked Back)
This brand was born from my kitchen, my motherhood journey, and my refusal to settle for “normal” when my baby needed healing.
I didn’t set out to start a skincare company—I just wanted something better for my family. But once I saw the impact, I knew I had to share it.
Tippy Tallow is about getting back to basics. It’s about trusting the body, trusting the Earth, and trusting our own intuition.
Whether you're navigating your own skin issues or searching for something safe enough for your baby—you're not alone. This is for you.
The Bottom Line
You don’t need 12 steps.
You don’t need to decode a science lab.
You just need ingredients your body already knows what to do with.
This is skincare stripped back to the roots.
Born from motherhood. Built on trust. Backed by nature.
Welcome to the tallow revolution!
From one conscious mama to another—thanks for being here,
